We IMAGINE a brighter future for our community

IMAGINE stands for “Inspiring and Motivating Academic Growth In our Neighborhood through Education.” As the name implies, IMAGINE is an academic success program grounded in the belief that all Children, with the appropriate academic support, can reach their fullest potential. For the past five years the IMAGINE program has fulfilled this mission by providing quality tutoring for K-12 students in the Beach Flats and Lower Ocean. Throughout these last five years, IMAGINE has sought to provide a structured after-school homework program with a comprehensive curriculum that addresses the needs of our diverse population of students.

The IMAGINE program is a collaborative project between the Beach Flats Community Center (City of Santa Cruz) and the Nueva Vista Apartments (Mercy Housing California). The program is housed at the Beach Flats Community Center in the Nueva Vista apartment complex.

Aside from providing academic support, IMAGINE is also a great resource for community volunteers. It is our hope that volunteers will gain valuable insights about the value of education and about the Beach Flats community working with our program. Throughout the years we have worked with volunteers from local institutions of higher education and local high schools. Currently, we are working closely with Pacific Collegiate School to recruit quality volunteers to tutor our students.

An important aspect of our program is parent involvement and participation. Parental participation is key to building a strong program that benefits the students and their families. We are committed to working with parents and we encourage parent involvement in their children’s education.

Given the current budget shortfall in the City of Santa Cruz, IMAGINE is also exploring a three-way partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Cruz in order to provide a well rounded program that focuses on the key aspects of our work: Youth, Family and Community.

We are always looking for volunteers who want to enrich their own lives by sharing their love for education with the children of our community. Get in contact with our volunteer coordinator Vanessa Quiroz-Carter to find out how you can help our students realize their full academic potential.
